10 Tips to Keep your Kitchen OrganizedAuthor: Linda Furiate
Our kitchen is probably one of the busiest rooms in our homes, if not busiest. Following are a few suggestions that will save you time while keeping your kitchen neat and tidy.
Our kitchen is probably one of the busiest rooms in our homes, if not busiest. With the kids running in and out, dinners made in a hurry and maybe some family members choosing not to care where things belong, before we know our pots and pans, drinking glasses and our glad ware is all over the kitchen. In order to eliminate the tedious and time consuming chore of re-organizing our kitchen every week, following are a few suggestions that will save you time while keeping your kitchen neat and tidy:
1. Simply – have a place for everything.
2. When using a kitchen item such as a plate, glass or pot put it away in its intended location
3. Keep traffic flow at a minimum. Having the kids running in and out of the kitchen grabbing this and that to eat creates chaos. Have specific meal times with everyone eating together so clean up is much more of a breeze.
4. Throw out unwanted and unused items regularly especially those plastic butter containers.
5. If you have one, use your dishwasher and empty it soon after it’s completed its cleaning/drying cycle. Put everything back in its intended place. Don’t keep taking items out of the dishwasher as you need them. This just creates more dishes in the sink that you don’t feel like washing by hand.
6. For those small appliances that only get used a few times a year, store them in your higher cabinets or in rarely used cabinets. This way they won’t be in the way of more often used items.
7. Don’t put food products in the same cupboard as things like dishes or glasses.
8. Keep your silverware and utensil drawer neat and tidy by using the cutlery drawer trays.
9. Use a lazy-susan or turntable for your spices to allow for easy access and identification.
10. Have one designated junk drawer for things like scissors, tape, paper, pens and use the drawer organizers to keep everything in its proper place.
